Earlier this year, congenital heart disease became very personal to my family. My nephew Ezra was just a few days away from turning two months old when he was diagnosed with ALCAPA, a rare congenital heart condition that required open heart surgery.

Watching someone so small go through something so big changed the way I look at all of this. Seeing what Ezra went through, and seeing firsthand what his doctors, nurses, and advances in heart care were able to do for him, made me realize just how important this work really is.

This September, I’ll be walking with my family as part of Ezra’s Little Heart in the New York City Congenital Heart Walk. I’m walking for my nephew, for his parents, and for all the other families who have had to go through something like this.
