Every 15 minutes in the United States, a baby is born with a congenital heart defect, nearly 1 in 110 babies, making CHDs the most common birth defect in our country. Approximately 25% of children born with a CHD will need heart surgery or other interventions in their first year of life to survive.

When our daughter was born with a CHD, specifically Pulmonary Valve Stenosis, in August 2023, our world felt as if it had been turned upside down. We've since learned so much about Congeital Heart Defects, such as there are 40 different kinds of CHDs, but most importantly, we've learend how underfunded the research is for CHDs. Twice as many children die from congenital heart defects each year than from all forms of childhood cancer combined, yet funding for pedatric cancer research is five times higher than funding for CHD.

As a new Heart Warrior family, our commitment is to make a difference in honor of our sweet and strong daughgter, Autumn Lyn Steele; she is truly a sweetHEART. We are excited to participate in the Congenital Heart Walk for the first time this year and raise awareness and funding to support The Children's Heart Foundation in its mission to advance the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of CHDs by funding groundbreaking research.
