My commitment to making a difference has led me to participate in the Congenital Heart Walk, an event that carries immense significance for me. It's not just a walk; it's a stride toward changing lives. As many of you may know my daughter, Sofia, was born with a congenital heart defect.  CHD does not run in our family but it still happened to us with our first born.  Sofia was diagnosed with a moderate perimembranous VSD in utero (suspected about 28 weeks gestation).  Sofia was also growth restricted which made our situation a little more difficult.  Our daughter was born 10/01/22 weighing 3lbs 11oz at 36 weeks.  She was later diagnosed with 2 VSDs, 1 ASD, Mesocardia, juxtapositional atrial appendage, and an overriding aorta.  After 34 days in the NICU she was sent home to be quickly readmitted to the PICU due to fluid overload in her lungs due to her heart problems which turned into feeding intolerance.  Open heart surgery took place when Sofia was 8 weeks old.  She had a complication after surgery- hemidiaphramatic paralysis causing her lung to collapse.  Sofia spent a total of 55 days in the hospital.  Today, despite her uphill battle, she is thriving.  Sofia Marie is a happy toddler that keeps us on our feet!
