I'm AJ and some of you may know but I was born with a bicuspid aortic valve and in 2025 I had 2 open heart procedures to fix the issue. My first procedure was a Ross procedure that took my pulmonary valve and made it my new aortic valve. Recovery was going well until 2 months later I noticed some pain in my chest from taking in breaths and I was getting tired easier. I went to the ER and they discovered a pseudo aneurysm that they needed to open me back up to try and fix. Upon opening me up they found that my new aortic valve completely failed and was torn up so the team at U of M replaced that with an On-X mechanical valve. I've been doing well with recovery and have found a drive to help anyone with a congenial heart defect.
