On June 8, Ellie's Cardio Club will walk in the Children's Heart Foundation Congenital Heart Walk. I walk in honor of my friends Joelle Shabat and her daughter Ellie, who was born with a heart defect. Little Ellie had to undergo surgery before she could crawl and, as you can imagine, it was an extremely difficult time for her loved ones, especially mommy and daddy. The hours waiting for word, the days praying for recovery, the weeks desperate to know if the procedure worked, or if they would have to go through it all again.
Congenitial Heart Disease is traumatic. Finding a cure doesn't have to be. If we work together as a community, there is no problem that we cannot solve.
Ellie's story is a happy one so far. She is a beautiful, happy, engaged little girl, about to celebrate a much anticipated and hard-won first birthday.
