As you know, Katie has been through a lot these past 6 months! What started out with Endocarditis, we continued IV antibiotics at home for 4 months, ended up spending 38 days in the hosital, 2 ambulance rides to Ann Arbor, 2 open heart surgeries, and "extra" sternotomy to remove a blood clot in front of her heart. We are so incredibly blessed that she is doing so well! She was able to participate in graduation in April and we were able to enjoy her graduation trip to Florida with family and her friends. She will be finishing up her student teaching starting in August and completes her state required hours in Mid-October! We are so incredibly proud of her!
This is just one of the reasons we decided to participate in the Congenital Heart Walk, an event that carries immense significance for us. It's not just a walk; it's a stride toward changing lives and showing how she an endured her story!! This endeavor is all about supporting The Children's Heart Foundation and their crucial mission - advancing the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of congenital heart defects through groundbreaking research. When Katie was born, we could only dream about some of the medical advancements that have taken place. She received a valve replacement through a catheter when she was in 7th grade! There is so much hope for her medical future and the future of so many other children faced with Congenital Heart Defects!
