2024 Western Michigan Congenital Heart Walk

On August 18, we will be walking at Millenium Park to raise money for The Children’s Heart Foundation. If you have some extra money this is a great foundation that has and continues to improve the paths of so many kids and babies with CHD.

We are walking for Orrie our heart warrior Most of you know Orries story but for those who don’t I’ll summarize it here.

Orrie was born with CHD but we didn’t find out about it until he was 2 days old. Since then he has been hospitalized for all but a month and a half of his life with issues stemming from that CHD diagnosis.

So far he has had 3 major open heart surgeries, countless procedures, cath lab visits, lab draws, transfusions, echos, and ultrasounds. He was home for about a month and a half at the end of last year but was readmitted on Christmas Day with respiratory distress. Since Christmas he has had 2 heart surgeries, a tracheostomy, placement of a GJ tube, numerous central lines, and most recently surgery to place a PD catheter so he can soon start peritoneal dialysis. Through all of that he somehow has a better attitude than anyone I know. He is the happiest little guy with the biggest smile. He shines his light to everyone who visits. He shows me daily that life is hard but there is always something to be thankful for.
