Tampa Congenital Heart Walk Presented by St. Joseph's Children's Hospital

As many of you know The Children's Heart Foundation sits close to our hearts.

Rylee was born with 3 congenital heart defects; 2 VSDs (ventricular septal defect) and a coractation of the aorta. At 5 days old she underwent heart surgery to place a PA Band near the VSDs as a temporary bandaid so they could have the opportunity to close on their own. During that surgery, the doctors also repaired her aorta.

During the time she was in the hospital, we received resources from the Children's Heart Foundation that helped us explain what was going on with Rylee to our at the time 3 year old daughter at home.

Rylee was FINALLY able to come home at 10 days old.

That hasn't been the end of Rylee's journey. At 4 months old, she had to have another procedure. The surgery on her aorta began to have a build up of scar tissue thus leading to the reforming of the coarctation of her aorta. This time though the doctors were able to preform a cath procedure that ballooned her aorta open again.

Rylee continues to see her doctors every 3-4 months (we are praying it gets moved to every 6 months soon). Each visit she has great results and she is now a thriving 10 month old. She is now on the move and we can't keep her still. She is babbling from the minute she wakes up until she goes to sleep. She and her sister are the sweetest of friends.

With all that said, none of this would be possible withouth the doctors at St. Joesph's Children's Hospital in Tampa and the Children's Heart Foundation. Each donation goes to help a family like ours as they walk through this journey.
