My name is Douglas Sexton, and I am a congenital heart disease survivor. I was diagnosed when I was born in 1986 with Ebsteins Anomaly, a defect of the right heart that causes failure of the tricuspid valve to properly form. Due to this condition, I have had and continue to have a life long battle of different problems that arise due to my diseased heart. I have so far endured 2 open heart operations, 2 cardiac catheterizations, 1 cardiac ablation, pacemaker implantation, and multiple other tests to monitor the progression of my disease.
Thirty-six years ago, very limited information was known about my condition. However, due to continued studies, research, and organizations like The Children's Heart Foundation, I am here living to tell my story and spread awareness about congenital heart defects. Approximately, 1 out of every 110 live births, a baby is born with some sort of heart defect. This makes heart defects the NUMBER ONE birth defect.
By donating to my page, you are personally helping scientist, doctors, and other staff to make a difference in my life. I have been on the receiving end of some of the latest technology to prolong my life, and make it the best it can be.
