For anyone who might not know our story...
My name is Sarah and I am a mother to a 2 and 3 year old.
My 3 year olds name is Carter.
Carter is a daughter, a big sister, a granddaughter, a cousin, a niece and a friend. She is the most caring- easy going, princess loving, girly girl, kind hearted person I know. She truly cares for everyone and everything and their well being.
Carter was also born with a congenital heart defect called a PDA. In most children this will close after birth, for Carter it did not causing extra blood to flow to her lungs. The first year of her life we had lots of cardiologist appointments along with alot of bills. We were hoping that this would close on its own. Unfortunately at her 10 month check up we found out she would have surgery to close her PDA.
She had her surgery at 11 months old at the Childrens Hospital of Pittsburgh. The surgery lasted 2 hours but it felt like 2 days, I remember being the most scared I’ve ever been letting someone operate on my baby.
Today, Carter is 3.5 and she lives a totally normal life. Loves dancing, playing soccer, swimming, crafting, ice cream, playing with her cousins and friends and so much more.
She is our little heart warrior.
Every 15 minutes a baby is born with a congenital heart defect. I thank foundations like The Children’s Heart Foundation for raising money for research to help children just like Carter live their lives to the fullest.
One Sunday June 23rd our family and friends will walk to raise money for the Children’s Heart Foundation and honor our sweet Heart Warrior Carter.
