We’re walking for my son, Stephen—our Heart Warrior. Stephen was born with congenital heart disease, including Bicuspid Aortic Valve, Severe Aortic Stenosis, and Aortic Insufficiency. From the very beginning, his heart has had to work harder, but so has he. During his first year Stephen had two open heart surgeries. One at 12 days old and one at 10 months old. Now at the age of 14 he will be facing his third open heart surgery. He is our Super Trooper!

Stephen is loving, helpful, and funny, but he is also brave, and strong. He has a huge heart in every sense of the word. When he grows up, he wants to be a garbage man, because he loves helping his community. He also loves camping, Disney, and gaming, and he brings joy and laughter everywhere he goes.

We’re walking to raise awareness and support research, advocacy, and resources for families like ours living with CHD. It is beacuse of this research that Stephen is here with us today. This third surgery he is about to face is called the Ross Procedure which will replace his diseased aortic valve with his own pulmonary valve. He then will get a cadaver valve to replace the pulmonary valve. Every step we take helps to advance surgical and medical research to improve the quality of life for Stephen and for all heart warriors who face this journey with courage and fight every day.

This year The Children's Heart Foundation is celebrating 30 incredible years of funding research that saves lives! Every 15 minutes in the United States, a baby is born with a congenital heart defect, making CHDs the most common birth defect in our country. For three decades, CHF has been the driving force behind the treatments and surgical advances that have transformed survival rates and given countless children with CHD the chance to thrive.

The Congenital Heart Walk is dedicated to making this impact continue. Our mission is clear—we aim to raise funds to support The Children's Heart Foundation's quest to advance the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of CHDs by funding groundbreaking research that improves outcomes, reduces complications, and helps Heart Warriors live longer, healthier lives.
