Our sweet girl was born November 11th 2021 and it was one of the happiest days of our lives! From birth Daisy struggled with weight gain, going to the doctor every other day for weight checks. One of those doctors heard the tiniest murmur possible but still referred us to cardiology due to policy, a policy we are forever grateful for! Sadly before we could attend her first cardiology appointment Daisy developed RSV which led to viral meningitis at just 29 days old. After a long week in the hospital she was finally released and off to cardio we went! What was suppose to be a simple and short echo turned into THREE hours of image gathering from the echo to verify that she indeed had a heart defect.

After multiple imaging, Daisy was diagnosed with a left pulmonary artery sling. Due to the anatomy of how her left pulmonary artery formed it was causing compression on her trachea and esophagus. At just 8 months old Daisy underwent surgery with the most amazing surgical team at UNC to correct her defect. For the rest of her life Daisy will have to be monitored by cardiology to ensure the blood flow to her left lung doesn't become compromised.
