Daisy's Heart Warrior Journey
We want to express our heartfelt thanks for taking a moment to visit our fundraising page.
Our daughter Daisy was born on January 14, 2025 after a long and difficult journey of infertility and IVF treatment. We were overjoyed when we finally learned we were expecting, but our joy quickly turned to worry during our 20-week anatomy scan when the technician discovered a potential issue with her heart. After several fetal echocardiograms, Daisy was diagnosed with Total Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Return (TAPVR), Supracardiac Type, a congenital heart defect that would require open-heart surgery shortly after birth.
Thankfully, knowing about the condition in advance allowed us to change our care plan and find the best team of doctors and surgeons at NYP Columbia. But our journey was far from easy. Due to other pregnancy complications and hospital admittances, Daisy was born at 36 weeks, and immediately admitted to the Cardiology NICU. She was discharged after a week because she was breathing so well on her own and the doctors and surgeons were hopeful that she could gain weight and be prepared for her surgery within the month. But just two days later, Daisy showed some beginning signs of heart failure and had to be rushed back to NYP Columbia for surgery.
At just two weeks old and weighing only 5 pounds, Daisy underwent a procedure to repair her TAPVR, along with a patch repair of the Inferior Sinus Venosus Atrial Septal Defect and a PDA Ligation. Her chest had to remain open due to hemorrhaging and was able to be closed 3 days later. But Daisy, our little heart warrior, fought through it all. After 10 days in the hospital, she was discharged with a perfectly repaired heart and a beautiful scar that tells the story of her strength.
Although she's small, today Daisy is thriving, and we are incredibly grateful for the incredible care she received. We are participating in the Childrens Heart Foundation Congenital Heart Walk in honor of our brave little girl. The walk is a chance to raise funds for critical research and support for families facing similar challenges. Your donation will help fund this vital work and give hope to countless families with children and babies like Daisy.
Thank you for joining us in supporting this cause that means so much to our family. Daisy’s journey is just beginning, and we are determined to help create a future where all children born with congenital heart defects have the resources and care they need to thrive.
This endeavor is all about supporting The Children's Heart Foundation and their crucial mission - advancing the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of congenital heart defects through groundbreaking research.
We warmly invite you to become a part of this significant journey by supporting our fundraising efforts. Together, we can raise the funds essential to drive forward life-saving research. Your contribution holds immeasurable value to us.
Thank you for your generosity, and for standing beside us in this mission. Your support means the world.
Love,
Emily, Nick, Billie & Daisy
