I want to express my heartfelt thanks for taking a moment to visit my fundraising page.

Over the 40 years that I hve been practicing in the field of pediatric and fetal congential cardiology, we have seen enormous advancement in the care of our patients.  When I began my career we thought it was wonderful if a child with more than a simple ongenital heart defect was in reasonable shape after their first 5 years and the number who survived into adulthood was a select few.  Now it is the expectation of us all that our patients come through their surgeries, even for complex defects, and grow into adults who will then go on and have children of their own.  This would not have been possible without a great deal of research and that would not have been possible without financial investment.   Unfortunately the journey to excellance in cardiac care for children is not over.  Our patients still face obsticles and vulnerabilities beyond those of children who have the good fortunce of being born with normal hearts.  There is still work to do to improve their longevity and quality of life but that will take further research and thus we still need financial investment to engage in that work.

Before this year we could count on much of that support coming form the NIH and other government granting agencies.  Since January we can no longer expect that even well thought out and planned research in the advancement of care for children will be supported by the traditional government agencies as the boards of these agencies have been decimated or replaced with those who are not atuned to what is required for this work.  As a result your support, both financial and vocal is more important now than it has ever been.  

And that's where the the Congenital Heart Walk comes in.   This endeavor is all about supporting The Children's Heart Foundation and their crucial mission - advancing the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of congenital heart defects through groundbreaking research.
