In 1989, my parents were told I wasn’t going to make it. At just one week old, I had life-saving heart surgery after being born with coarctation of the aorta, a serious congenital heart defect.

But I survived. I fought hard then, and I still fight today. I now see an adult congenital heart specialist and continue to live with the effects of this condition — because congenital heart disease doesn’t end in childhood.

Today, I’m 36 years old, a mom of 3, and I’m walking to raise awareness and funds for life-saving research that helps kids and adults like me.
