Our second son, Hastings, is a thriving, happy, and energetic heart warrior. When I was only 20 weeks pregnant with Hastings we were informed that he had dextro-transposition of the great arteries, a life threatening birth defect where his two main arteries to his heart are switched, and a ventricular septal defect which involves a hole in the heart.
We ended up delivering Hastings at U of M Mott Children’s Hospital and at only 4 days old Hastings underwent heart surgery where everything went successful and he had a month long hospital stay recovering. It is possible Hastings may need heart surgery in the far future of his life as he grows.
Hastings is a loving little boy who we are so blessed to have in our lives and without the help of research, past surgical successes, etc. he would not be here with us today.
We invite you to walk and help the fundraiser not only for Hastings, but for all children born with congenital heart disease that may or may not be with us. In doing this we can help to establish more research, treatment, and surgical successes so maybe one day every child born with CHD may thrive.
