Chicago Congenital Heart Walk

Our Why

Olivia was born with a rare congenital heart defect called Anomalous Origin of the Right Pulmonary Artery. Olivia required immediate intervention after she was born and underwent 2 cardic catheterizations before turning 2 months old. One of these procedures had never been done on an infant her age; while this was scary, we were grateful to be at a large academic hospital that incorporated novel approaches to help babies with CHD live fulfilling and long lives. Thanks to cutting edge approaches at Lurie Children's Hospital, Olivia recieved this new and innovative procedure that allowed her to continue to grow in preparation for her open heart surgery. Olivia then had open heart surgery just short of 3 months old, and was able to go home and thrive with her family only 5 days post-operation. Without these bold attempts at treating CHD by Lurie Children's cardiologists, Olivia may have led a very different life path.
