Birdie's Beating Hearts Fundraising Page

To say that Stella Birdie's first months of life were chaotic would be an understatement. My pregnancy with her was completely normal and uneventful.  She arrived a week and a half past her due date surrounded by loving family and within minutes of her arrival she took a very drastic turn for the worst. She was completely blue and struggling to breathe and within a few hours we had a diagnosis we never expected, Dextro Transposition of the Great Arteries. I couldn't understand how i had four completely normal ultrasounds throughout my pregnancy and nothing raised any flags on something this serious and life threatening. We were totally taken aback and stuck in a whirlwind which we had no time to prepare for. 

Within hours Birdie was in her first surgery and nine days later she had her arterial switch. Her entire hospital stay was full of ups and downs, we didn't know what her future would hold because of her start to life. Thankfully we got to keep her earthside with us and get to call her ours forever. She is such a light to our family and we simply cannot imagine our lives ever without her. We love to support this foundation  because it is so near and dear to our hearts. We hope that in the future there are exponential advancements in the dianosis and treatment of these heart defects. We hope that it minimizes the amount of defects that go unnoticed so that parents are aware and have ample time to prepare for what is to come when their babies arrive.
