Elaina was born with ALCAPA and had her first heart surgery at 2 months old. As you may know, she is the inspiration behind the book My Scar is Beautiful. It inspires the reader to wear their scars with pride and confidence. A scar is a sign of survival, and every day we are grateful for the doctors and research that saved her life.  

Every year, since we have moved to Atlanta in 2022, we have walked in the The Children's Heart Foundation Annual Walk to in honor of and to celebrate Elaina as well as the all children born with congenital heart defects (CHDs). Every day, we are grateful for the doctors and research that saved her life.

Every donation helps fund vital research to improve, and even save, the lives of children born with congenital heart defects (CHDs). Did you know that every 15 minutes in the U.S., a baby is born with a CHD? It’s the most common birth defect in our country—with 1 in 110 kids being born with a CHD - and yet so much more research is needed. That’s why the CHF's Congenital Heart Walk exists: to raise funds for The Children’s Heart Foundation and drive forward groundbreaking research into the diagnosis, fund innovative treatments and surgical advances that help children with CHD live longer, healthier lives.
